What is the Ultimate Elvis Contest?
The Ultimate Elvis Contest is the only competition for Elvis Tribute Artists in the world sanctioned by Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE). It is an international event, drawing the best Elvis performers from around the globe. Contestants represent the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, Brazil, Germany and Japan among many other countries.
Sanctioned preliminary rounds of the Ultimate contest are held worldwide between August and July of the following year. All winners of these preliminary contests earn a spot at the Semi-Final round and 10 will progress to the Ultimate Finals, both of which are held at Graceland during Elvis Week in early-mid August. The winner of the Ultimate receives $20,000 in addition to the increased earning potential that accompanies the distinction of being recognized as one of the best Elvis performers in the world.
What is an Elvis Tribute Artist (ETA)?
An Elvis Tribute Artist aims to pay tribute to Elvis Presley through a performance that is accurate in terms of the icon’s vocals, appearance, moves, stage presence, costumes, charisma and energy. Although they strive for precision, each ETA brings their own flavor and personality to their tribute.
ETAs undertake this pursuit primarily because they are inspired by Elvis Presley. Although many ETAs are also musicians and some pursue their own music careers outside of the Elvis world, they recognize that Elvis was not only an originator but also the world’s first
influencer, 50 years before the term came into existence. He was one of a kind and his music and performances have influenced music and culture ever since. Elvis’ influence has been so culturally pervasive that one cannot make it through a day without being confronted by an Elvis song or reference.
In addition, ETAs continue to perform their tributes because of their love for the Elvis community which is not only multi-generational and multi-cultural, but also a fiercely loyal and expanding worldwide group of people.
